Geoffrey Brumlik - Experience & Background

Bio

Geoffrey was born in Canada, but has been working in the UK for more than a decade.   His background includes work as a director,  Artistic Director,  Artistic Associate at a Regional Theatre in Canada and most recently as head of the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School's  MA / MFA Acting programme and a Senior Acting Tutor at the school. 

 

 A substantial amount of his directing and actor training experience is connected with works of language, in particular, work with Shakespeare.  He currently leads a highly successful 3-day international Shakespeare intensive that takes place in New York, Chicago and LA each year.  His background also includes a strong interest in the direction and development of new work. 

 

While in Canada, he served as Artistic Director of the River City Shakespeare Festival and Associate Director and Artistic Associate of The Citadel Theatre,  a major regional company in Western Canada.  He was one of two directors chosen each year to join the prestigious Directors' Project at Canada's Shaw Festival.

He has also done substantial work as Assistant Director on large-scale theatre productions and worked as a Voice and Acting Coach both privately and as support on productions for much of his career.

Education and Training

Geoffrey holds an MA in Directing from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, an MFA in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and a BFA in Acting from the University of Alberta in Canada.  In addition, he trained as part of the Young Company at Canada's Stratford Festival , as well as two summers of Study at the Banff Center for the Arts Summer Shakespeare program.

Geoff has spend the past 8 yeer as Head of the MA /  MFA Acting course and Senior Acting Tutor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
